Tokyo Game Show 2009 Info for SRW Neo

There are quite a few sites reporting what’s going on at Tokyo Game Show 2009 about SRW Neo. GPara’s site has an article with lots of pics of the demo stage, but there’s also a Japanese blog entry which reports some gameplay details as well.

Gpara’s pics shows a few attacks:

SRW Neo First Impressions

SRW Neo is finally here, and the game delivers a completely different SRW experience than any other.

The full 3D environment, although poor on details, is really a nice change of pace, with events and battles happening almost in real-time. I say almost, because we can still see the screen fade effect from each unit’s attack during the animation part.

SRW Neo Maps

The newest scans with SRW Neo news are here! And it seems there are major changes involving the map system:

* Map is no longer composed of square tiles, and units move according to a range radius
* Units cut-in (units appearance scenes) are all presented at the in-game map with proper zoom-in effects and such
* Walls and mountains are relatively in scale, making it hard for land units to move around
* Two types of attacks: linear and curved (can go through obstacles)
* Two types of attack animation: ordinary attacks are represented at the map, hissatsus are represented by zoomed animation
* Size differences: small units can go through tiny spaces blocking enemy units, but larger units get stuck; small units with same attack range as large ones has fewer reach

SRW Neo Original Characters

Finally some new info on SRW Neo! This time the scans from SRW Hotnews reveal the Banpresto Originals. Updated with new system info from complete scan. All non-Japanese name spellings are guesses:

  • The main character is Kakeru Inaba, a 17 year old high school student who lives alone with his younger brother due to his parents being out abroad all the time. He accidentally becomes the pilot of Sigzall (spelling?), a robot from another world.
  • Amane Inaba is Kakeru’s younger brother (yes, brother!), a boy concerned about his girly appearance. He becomes the core of Sigzall’s mothership Ionia.
  • Sharlie Lunoille (Shal) is a 19 year old girl who researches archeology with her elder brother at the outer world. She rides the Mervelle to aid her research and is capable of raiding the rival corporation Ernst’s fortress on her own.
  • Chaos Rail is the leader of Archeology Research Organization Ernst, a 346 year old woman who wants to protect the world from invaders.
  • Rivalis Muilove is the captain of Ernst’s combat forces, a 21 years old man who is capable of sacrificing himself for Chaos.
  • Breakthrough Attack (Toppa Kougeki): an attack type similar to a Map Attack, which can target enemy units without wounding ally units, during a unit’s movement. The scan shows Domon performing a Chokyuu Haoh Den’eidan.
  • Push (Oshidashi) system: a weapon with the Push ability can push enemies around the map when hit. The Push is level based, sending the opponent further when higher the level.
  • Additional damage from pushing: a target gets additional damage from push if it falls from high grounds (fall damage, 2000), hits another unit (crash damage, 1000) or hits an obstacle like a building, wall or even the map edge (pressure damage, 1000)

New System Info on SRW Neo

Another week, another Famitsu scan from SRW Hotnews. This week’s scans show a few interesting gameplay system updates:

Siege System

The area around a unit is divided into 4 sections. When ally units surround the enemy at these sections, the attack power of your units grow as you target such enemy.

2 examples:

  1. surround with 2 units: the 3rd attacking unit gains 30% attack up and 20% accuracy up
  2. surround with 4 units: the 5th attacking unit gains 60% attack up and 50% accuracy up

Seishin Level

The usual seishin system gains levels that will change its effectiveness or cost. As an example, the Lock-on seishin costs less the higher the level.

Also, the scans shows that a unit can choose which seishin to use even during enemy turns, before choosing a reaction to an attack.

Combination Attacks

  • Double Burning Fire: Mazinger + Great Mazinger
  • Fire Crash Don: Ryuknight Zephyr and Ryuknight Magidora
