Technical and Combat Informations of GX-9900 Gundam X

The most powerful Gundam-type mobile suit developed by the United Nations Earthduring the end of the 7th Space War, the Gundam X is the only Gundam equipped with a Satellite Cannon, which is capable of destroying a space colony with a single shot. To use the weapon a Newtype must use the Flash System of the suit to contact the lunar station on the moon to receive the energy in form of a microwave beam. As another safety measure the Satellite System and the suit at large can only be activated by a removeable G-Controller.

Like the other UNE Gundams, the Flash System of the Gundam X can be used to control a large number of Bit Mobile Suits in the GX’ case the FX-9900 GX-Bit.

Besides the satellite cannon, the Gundam X is also equipped with a standard set of weapons including a large beam sword, four breast mounted vulcan guns and a shield buster rifle, which, as its name implies, doubles as a shield as well as a beam rifle. The Vultures which have salvaged Gundam X units also added optional armament to the suit, including f.e. a holster shield of a buster sheath rifle.

After War Gundam X (機動新世紀ガンダムX Kidō Shinseiki Gandamu Ekkusu?, lit. Mobile New Century Gundam X) is an anime television series from Japan. It is a part of the Gundam franchise that started in 1979, but takes place in an alternate universe called After War Era. The series has 39 episodes, aired in Japan from April 5, 1996 to December 28, 1996 across TV Asahi’s ANNstations and the anime satellite television network Animax. It was directed by Sunrise veteranShinji Takamatsu (SD Gundam, The Brave of Gold Goldran, School Rumble), and the screenplay was written by Hiroyuki Kawasaki.

Overview

Following the success of Gundam WingAfter War Gundam X premiered on TV Asahi on April 5, 1996. This series was the third of Bandai’s alternate universes and the last Gundam series to air for three years. This series presented a scenario similar to the Universal Century’s One Year War and showed what would have happened had the colonists dropped dozens of colonies instead of one and destroyed the Earth’s surface, destroying most of the Earth’s population and leaving the survivors in a ruined post-apocalyptic world.

The premise is the setting of Gundam X, which uses the After War (AW) calendar. The basis point of the After War timeline is the end of an apocalyptic war that resulted in the drop of virtually all space colonies onto Earth, devastating the planet and destroying 99% of humanity. The series begins in AW 0015, as the Earth is just beginning to recover. The star of this series is fifteen year-old Garrod Ran, a member of Vulture, a scavenger group that patrols the wasteland for profits, which is on a mission to find and save mistreated Newtypes in the world from those who wish to take advantage of them. The first episode’s main storyline started off with Garrod doing a ‘hold-up’ to a reckless bandit who possessed a Mobile Suit. He was discovered by an old man (who may have had an influence) and assigned him to rescue a girl named Tiffa Adill from Vulture. As he rescues Tiffa, he discovers that she is a target of an unknown party and finds out that she is a Newtype. Then as the story goes on, they find the “15 year-old nightmare”, the Gundam X.Gundam X also used the space war concept featured in previous Gundam series as a backdrop, with the New United Nations Earth and the Space Revolutionary Army as the opposing factions.

The series peaked at 6.2% of the viewing audience watching which averaged 4.3%[citation needed]during the first two quarters, about the same as Gundam series from the mid-90s onward. In October 1996, the third quarter was moved from a Friday afternoon 5:00 PM timeslot to a Saturday morning 6:00 AM timeslot, suffering declining ratings.

The sequel manga Gundam X: Under the Moonlight, released as a tie-in with the DVD release ofGundam X, proved popular and was extended from its initial run of six chapters.

History

Developed by the old UNE at the end of the 7th Space War, the Gundam X, along with the other Gundam-type units was used to prevent the mass colony drop of theSpace Revolutionary Army from happening. One of the GX units in this battle was piloted by 15-year-old Newtype pilot Jamil Neate, who used his suit and GX-Bits to destroy one of the colonies moving towards Earth. This however only triggers the colony drop. At the end of the battle Jamil fights his rival Lancerow Dawell in hisMAN-002 Febral mobile armor. During this battle Jamil’s Gundam X is critically damaged although Jamil survives. This GX is later salvaged by the New UNE and parts of it are used in the construction of the new GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X.

In A.W. 15, an intact Gundam X was discovered by Garrod Ran in a abandoned UNE facility, while fleeing with Newtype girl Tiffa Adill from a mysterious man named Rantu. However, he was unable to activate the Gundam initially, due to the missing G-Controller. However, during the initial of Rantu and his men in their DT-6800A Daughtress units on the inert Gundam, the G-Controller that Garrod Ran had stolen from the safe of Jamil Neate, now captain of the Vulture ship Freeden, tumbled out of his jacket. With the controller in place, Garrod Ran was able to activate the Gundam and the pursuing forces.

The Gundam X would remain Garrod Ran’s private machine, until his first combat encounter with artificial Newtype Carris Nautilus’s RMSN-008 Bertigo resulted in the critical damage of the Gundam. With the MS’s Satellite Cannon destroyed beyond repair, Kid Salsamille, Chief Mechanic on board the Freeden, repaired and upgraded the Gundam X into the GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider.

In A.W. 0024, another intact black Gundam X unit was discovered in the Sea of Lorelei, inside a sunken submarine that has been resting on the ocean floor since the 7th Space War, by Vulture pilot Rick Aller. Much to their surprise, he and Rosa the Second discover that the original pilot has been kept in a state of suspended animation inside the cockpit of the black Gundam X unit. After being damaged by Kai’s GB-9700 Gundam Belphagor, this Gundam X got repainted closer to the standard color scheme. The satellite cannon, which Rick was unable to activate, became an optional weapon. Its shield buster rifle got modified into a holster shield, which can separate the buster sheath rifle from shield part. The buster sheath rifle also mounts a beam sword.
